Ingredients
- 2 to 3 tsp. chili powder ⓘ
- 1/2 c. onion, chopped ⓘ
- 1 Tbsp. butter ⓘ
- 2 lb. ground beef ⓘ
- 2/3 c. ketchup ⓘ
- 1/2 c. water ⓘ
- 1/4 c. celery, chopped ⓘ
- 2 Tbsp. lemon juice ⓘ
- 1/2 to 1 c. tomato juice ⓘ
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar ⓘ
- 1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire ⓘ
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt ⓘ
- 1 c. canned tomatoes, crushed
- 1 tsp. vinegar ⓘ
- 1/4 tsp. dry mustard ⓘ
- 1 (16 oz.) can kidney beans with liquid ⓘ
Instructions
- Saute chopped onion in butter until translucent.
- Add ground beef and brown lightly; drain off excess fat.
- Add chili powder, ketchup, water, chopped celery, lemon juice, tomato juice, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, crushed tomatoes, vinegar, and dry mustard. Stir well.
- Simmer the mixture for 30 minutes.
- Cool slightly.
- Add canned kidney beans with liquid, remaining tomato juice, and chili powder. Stir to combine.
- Simmer for an additional hour.
