Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter or oleo
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups chopped dates
  • 1 cup broken walnuts

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, soda, and salt and set aside.
  2. Cream butter and sugar.
  3. Add egg and mix well; add vanilla.
  4. Pour boiling water over chopped dates and let cool.
  5. Mix walnuts with flour.
  6. Alternate adding the date mixture and nuts to the butter and sugar mixture.
  7. Pour batter into a greased 9 x 12-inch pan.
  8. Bake in a 350°F oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
