Ingredients

  • 2 tsp. butter
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped green peppers
  • 1 can (14 1/2 oz.) tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 2 pie crusts
  • 1 chopped boiled egg
  • raisins
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

  1. Sauté beef, onion, and green pepper in butter for 5 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in tomatoes and spices. Simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally for 15 minutes.
  3. Drain the mixture and set aside.
  4. Place one pie crust on a greased cookie sheet.
  5. Spoon half the mixture onto one half of the crust, leaving a 1-inch border.
  6. Top with chopped boiled egg and raisins.
  7. Fold the crust over to cover the filling; press edges together firmly.
  8. Brush the top with beaten egg yolk.
  9. Repeat with the second pie crust and remaining filling.
  10. Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes until golden brown.
