Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 cup hot applesauce
  • 1 tsp. baking powder

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter until smooth.
  2. Add sugar, eggs, and hot applesauce to the creamed butter and mix well.
  3. Rub raisins with a tablespoon of flour to coat them.
  4. Add the flour, baking powder, baking soda (dissolved in hot applesauce), salt, cinnamon, and cloves to the mixture.
  5. Stir in the raisins and chopped nuts.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased 9 x 13-inch pan or two loaf pans.
  7. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for about 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
