Ingredients

  • 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
  • 12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 3 c. rolled oats
  • 1 tsp. baking soda

Instructions

  1. Combine sweetened condensed milk, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and 2 tablespoons of butter in a heatproof bowl.
  2. Heat over hot water until melted, stirring occasionally.
  3. Stir in chopped nuts and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract.
  4. Set the chocolate filling aside.
  5. Cream 1 cup of butter and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  6. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  7. Stir in all-purpose flour, rolled oats, baking soda, and salt until combined.
  8. Press two-thirds of the oatmeal mixture evenly into a buttered 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  9. Spread the chocolate filling evenly over the crust.
  10. Sprinkle the remaining oatmeal mixture over the chocolate layer, adding additional chopped nuts if desired.
  11. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Allow to cool slightly, then cut into bars while still warm.
