Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 Tbsp. oil
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 inch fresh ginger root, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp. ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp. ground coriander
  • 1 tsp. ground mustard seed
  • 1 1/2 to 2 lb. stewing steak, cut in 1-inch cubes
  • 8 oz. frozen spinach, drained
  • 10 oz. unflavored yogurt

Instructions

  1. Heat butter and oil in a large pan.
  2. Add chopped onions, crushed garlic, and spices; fry over medium heat until onions are soft.
  3. Add the stewing beef and fry, stirring occasionally, until browned.
  4. Stir in drained frozen spinach and half of the yogurt. Cover and simmer over low heat for 2 hours, until the meat is tender.
  5. Add a little water during cooking if needed.
  6. Before serving, stir in the remaining yogurt.
  7. Serve with rice and mango chutney.
