Oriental Dinner

Ingredients
- 1 lb. pork steak
- 2 Tbsp. hot shortening ⓘ
- 1/2 c. sliced onion ⓘ
- 1/2 c. green pepper strips ⓘ
- 4 oz. can mushroom stems and pieces ⓘ
- 2 Tbsp. flour ⓘ
- 1/2 c. Pet evaporated milk ⓘ
- 8 oz. tomato sauce ⓘ
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar ⓘ
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar ⓘ
- 1 tsp. salt ⓘ
- 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce ⓘ
- 3 c. cooked rice ⓘ
Instructions
- Cut the pork steak into 2 x 1/2-inch strips and brown in hot shortening in a skillet.
- Add sliced onion, green pepper strips, and drained mushroom stems and pieces. Cook until tender.
- Remove from heat and move the meat mixture to one side of the skillet.
- Stir flour into the drippings in the skillet.
- Gradually stir in 1/3 cup of the liquid drained from mushrooms and the evaporated milk.
- Cook over low heat until the mixture thickens.
- Add the tomato sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, salt, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well.
- Cover and cook over low heat for 30 minutes.
- Serve the sauce over cooked rice.
