Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb. ground beef ⓘ
- 3/4 cup uncooked oatmeal ⓘ
- 1 can water chestnuts, diced and finely chopped ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon monosodium glutamate ⓘ
- 1/2 teaspoon onion salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- dash of Tabasco sauce ⓘ
- 1 egg ⓘ
- 1/2 cup milk ⓘ
- 1 (8 1/2 oz.) crushed pineapple ⓘ
- 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch ⓘ
- 1 cup beef bouillon ⓘ
- 1/2 cup vinegar ⓘ
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce ⓘ
Instructions
- Combine ground beef, oatmeal, water chestnuts, monosodium glutamate, onion salt, garlic salt, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, Tabasco sauce, and milk in a bowl.
- Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Shape the mixture into small balls using about 2 tablespoons of mixture for each.
- Place the meatballs under the broiler until browned on all sides, shaking the pan frequently to keep them round.
- Drain off excess grease and set the meatballs aside.
- Drain the pineapple, reserving the juice.
- In a saucepan, mix together the brown sugar and cornstarch.
- Add the reserved pineapple juice, beef bouillon, vinegar, and 2 teaspoons soy sauce to the saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly until thickened and clear.
- Boil for 1 minute.
- Stir in the pineapple and chopped green pepper.
- Combine the sauce with the cooked meatballs.
- Simmer everything together for about 10 minutes.
- Serve the sauce and meatballs in a chafing dish with wooden picks for spearing.
