  • 1/2 c. celery
  • 1/2 c. green peppers
  • 1 c. onions

Tips & Substitutions

For a juicier steak, consider adding a splash of beef broth or sautéed mushrooms to the mixture. If you’re out of Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce can be a good substitute. To enhance the flavor, try adding minced garlic or fresh herbs. Ensure the patties are even in size for uniform cooking, and remember that baking times may vary based on your oven.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Salisbury steaks topped with rich gravy in a casserole dish for a comforting meal. Pair them with mashed potatoes or a side of steamed vegetables for a well-rounded dinner. A fresh green salad can also complement the dish nicely. For a heartier option, these steaks would go well with the American recipes, such as the Convenience Casserole.

Storage & Reheating

After cooking, let the Salisbury steaks cool completely before storing them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze the cooked patties; just separate them with wax paper to prevent sticking. To reheat, place them in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 20 minutes or until warmed through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use ground turkey instead of hamburger for this recipe?

Yes, you can substitute ground turkey for hamburger to create a lighter version of Salisbury steak. Just be mindful that turkey can dry out more easily, so consider adding a little extra moisture, like broth or an additional egg, to keep the patties juicy.

How can I make the gravy for the Salisbury steaks?

To make a simple gravy, sauté some onions in the drippings from the cooked patties, then whisk in flour to create a roux. Gradually add beef broth, stirring until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste. This homemade gravy will enhance the flavor of your Salisbury steaks significantly.

Can I make the patties ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the patties in advance and store them in the refrigerator for up to a day before cooking. Alternatively, you can freeze them uncooked. Just be sure to separate each patty with wax paper and thaw them in the fridge overnight before cooking for the best results.
