Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup oil
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup chopped cooked prunes
  • 1/4 cup prune juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine eggs, oil, and sugar in a large mixer bowl; mix well.
  2. Mix buttermilk and soda in a cup.
  3. Sift flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves into a bowl.
  4. Stir in chopped pecans.
  5. Add the flour mixture to the egg mixture alternately with the buttermilk, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Mix in chopped prunes, prune juice, and vanilla extract.
  7. Spoon the batter into a greased tube pan.
  8. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  9. Invert the cake onto a serving plate.
  10. Pour sauce over the cake immediately before serving.
