Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup butter or oleo
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg and ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten

Instructions

  1. Combine 2 cups flour and sugar; cut in butter to form crumbs in a medium bowl.
  2. In a small bowl, combine 3/4 cup of the crumbs and 1/4 cup walnuts; set aside.
  3. Into remaining crumbs, stir in remaining 1 cup flour, baking powder, spices, baking soda, salt, and remaining 3/4 cup walnuts.
  4. Combine sour milk and eggs and stir into dry ingredients.
  5. Spoon the batter into lined muffin tins, filling 2/3 full.
  6. Top each muffin with a generous spoonful of crumb mixture.
  7. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden and cooked through.
