Ingredients

  • 1 cup sliced carrots
  • 2 cups sliced cabbage
  • 1 tablespoon chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup hot water
  • Brown gravy mix
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon savory
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cans pastry pockets

Instructions

  1. Sauté the sliced carrots, cabbage, chopped onion, and margarine in a heavy skillet for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove to a large bowl.
  2. In the same skillet, brown the ground beef and drain excess fat.
  3. Add hot water, brown gravy mix, salt, savory, and pepper to the beef. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Return the sautéed vegetables to the skillet with the beef mixture. Mix well.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Spread out the pastry pockets on a baking sheet.
  6. Place about 2 tablespoons of the beef and vegetable filling onto each pastry pocket.
  7. Fold over the pastry pockets and pinch the edges together to seal.
  8. Make 3 to 4 slits in the back of each pastry to allow steam to escape.
  9. Brush the tops of the pastry pockets with a mixture of beaten egg and water.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, until golden brown.
