Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 c. fine dry bread or cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. dark steak sauce
  • 1 c. tomato sauce
  • 2 cans (16 oz.) whole potatoes, well drained
  • pepper
  • seasoned salt
  • 2 medium tomatoes, halved
  • 4 very thin slices onion

Instructions

  1. Set oven to broil.
  2. Mix ground beef, bread or cracker crumbs, salt, steak sauce, and tomato sauce.
  3. Lightly form into 4 thick patties and place on a broiler pan rack.
  4. Arrange drained potatoes beside the meat; dot with butter and sprinkle with pepper and seasoned salt.
  5. Broil about 4 inches from heat until patties are browned, about 3 to 5 minutes; turn the patties over.
  6. Dot the potatoes with butter again; place tomato halves on the rack beside the potatoes.
  7. Broil for an additional 3 to 5 minutes until the meat is browned.
  8. Cover each patty with a slice of onion; top with a slice of cheese.
  9. Broil until the cheese melts.
