Tips & Substitutions

For an extra flavor boost, consider marinating the stewing chicken in lemon juice and herbs for a few hours before cooking. If you don't have Skinner dumplings, you can use any homemade or store-bought dumplings. To thicken the broth, whisk in a bit more flour if desired. Adjust the seasoning to taste throughout the cooking process to ensure a well-balanced flavor.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the stew hot, garnished with fresh herbs like parsley for added color and flavor. It pairs beautifully with crusty bread or a light salad, such as a Meal Salad, to balance the richness of the dish. For a complete meal, consider serving with steamed green vegetables or a side of rice.

Storage & Reheating

Leftover stew can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply warm it on the stovetop over medium heat, adding a splash of water or broth if it seems too thick. You can also microwave individual portions for convenience, ensuring they are heated through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen dumplings instead of uncooked ones?

Yes, you can use frozen dumplings in this recipe. Just add them directly to the boiling broth, but you may need to adjust the cooking time as frozen dumplings typically take longer to cook through. Ensure they are heated thoroughly before serving.

What can I substitute for stewing chicken?

If you don't have stewing chicken, you can use bone-in chicken thighs or breasts, which will also provide great flavor. Just adjust the cooking time accordingly, as boneless cuts will cook faster than whole pieces.

How can I make this dish gluten-free?

To make a gluten-free version of this dish, substitute the flour with a gluten-free thickener like cornstarch or a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend. Additionally, ensure your dumplings are gluten-free, or consider making homemade dumplings using a gluten-free flour mix.
