Ingredients

  • 10 slices lean bacon
  • 2 lb lean hamburger
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup soft bread crumbs
  • oregano
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 lb mushrooms
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 2 cans cream of mushroom soup

Instructions

  1. Fry bacon until crispy; reserve the bacon fat.
  2. Mix lean hamburger, chopped onions, eggs, bread crumbs, oregano, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  3. Form the mixture into meatballs.
  4. Fry the meatballs in the bacon fat until browned and cooked through.
  5. Saute sliced mushrooms in butter until tender.
  6. Mix cream of mushroom soup and red wine in a bowl.
  7. Place the cooked meatballs in a baking dish.
  8. Pour the mushroom and wine mixture over the meatballs.
  9. Crumble the cooked bacon over the top.
  10. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
  11. Serve the meatballs and sauce over steamed white rice.
