Three Layer Jam Cake

- Cream together the butter, brown sugar, vanilla, jam, and eggs.
- Sift flour together with nutmeg, allspice, baking soda, and cocoa, then combine alternately with buttermilk into the creamed mixture.
- Add raisins, nuts, and coconut to the batter.
- Take out 1 1/2 cups of batter and set aside.
- Pour the remaining batter equally into 3 round cake pans and bake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Prepare the reserved batter by mixing in 1/2 cup sugar, 1 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter, and 1 cup milk; cook until thickened, then cool.
- Spread the thickened mixture between the cooled cake layers and on top.
- Frost the assembled cake with caramel frosting.
