Ingredients

  • 8 slices white bread
  • 2 cans tuna, drained
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 celery, chopped
  • Paprika
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 (2 oz.) pimento, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • Grated American cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook celery slowly in a small amount of water for 10 minutes and drain.
  2. Dice half of the bread into cubes.
  3. Place the bread cubes in the bottom of a greased 10 x 13-inch baking pan.
  4. Mix drained tuna, chopped onion, mayonnaise, cooked celery, chopped pimento, and chopped green pepper.
  5. Spread the tuna mixture over the bread layer.
  6. Dice the remaining bread and place over the tuna mixture.
  7. Mix eggs and milk, then pour over the top layer of bread.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and refrigerate overnight.
  9. Bake for 12 minutes at 325°F.
  10. Spoon mushroom soup over the top, then sprinkle with grated American cheese and paprika.
  11. Bake uncovered at 325°F for 1 hour until heated through and cheese is melted.
