Ingredients

  • 1 cup pinto beans
  • 5 cups tomatoes
  • 3 or 4 chopped green peppers
  • 4 cups chopped onions
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons salad oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 cup chopped parsley
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 2 1/2 pounds ground chuck
  • 1 pound ground lean pork
  • 1 small can chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cumin seed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons monosodium glutamate

Instructions

  1. Combine cooked pinto beans and tomatoes and simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Saute chopped green peppers in salad oil for 5 minutes.
  3. Add chopped onions; cook until tender, stirring often.
  4. Add crushed garlic and chopped parsley; melt margarine and saute ground chuck and ground lean pork for 15 minutes.
  5. Add cooked meat to onion mixture; stir in chili powder and cook for 10 minutes.
  6. Add this mixture to the beans and tomatoes, then add spices.
  7. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes.
  8. Skim fat off the top.
  9. Flavor will improve if set in refrigerator overnight.
  10. May be frozen indefinitely.
