- Place the green peppers in a saucepan and cover with boiling water.
- Let stand for 5 minutes, then drain.
- Remove stems and seeds from the peppers.
- Trim the bottom of each pepper to allow them to stand upright.
- Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a skillet.
- Cook the minced onion, optional garlic, and parsley or chopped celery tops for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Add the moistened bread crumbs, squeezing out excess moisture.
- Heat the mixture well.
- Add the cooked or canned shrimp, salt, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Remove from heat and stir in the beaten egg.
- Fill each pepper with the prepared mixture.
- Place the stuffed peppers in a pan containing 1/4-inch boiling water.
- Dot the peppers with butter.
- Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 20 to 30 minutes, until browned, adding more water if necessary.
