Ingredients

  • 1 medium head green cabbage (3 or 4 lb.)
  • 1 bunch carrots
  • 6 or 8 new potatoes
  • 2 lb. corned beef or smoked ham hocks
  • 1/4 tsp. celery seed
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 8 small onions
  • 2 green peppers
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 2 large onions
  • 1 small can tomato sauce
  • 1 can ripe olives
  • 2 c. hot water
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 Tbsp. bacon fat
  • 1 can whole kernel corn
  • 1 (No. 2) can tomatoes
  • 2 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • dash of red pepper

Instructions

  1. Saute onions, garlic, and green pepper in bacon fat for 20 minutes.
  2. Add seasoning with chopped meat (corned beef or smoked ham hocks).
  3. Pour the mixture into a large pan or casserole dish.
  4. Add whole kernel corn, tomatoes, and tomato sauce or puree.
  5. Prepare a cornmeal batter and drop by spoonfuls on top of the mixture.
  6. Bake in a hot oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese before serving.
