Ingredients
- 2 lb. lean round steak or chuck roast, cut in 1-inch cubes ⓘ
- 2 Tbsp. shortening ⓘ
- 1 1/2 c. onion, sliced ⓘ
- 1 c. applesauce ⓘ
- 3 Tbsp. flour ⓘ
- 1 to 3 tsp. curry ⓘ
- 1 tsp. salt ⓘ
- 1/4 tsp. pepper ⓘ
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg ⓘ
- 1 (10 1/4 oz.) can beef broth ⓘ
- 2 c. tomato sauce ⓘ
- 1 1/3 c. raisins ⓘ
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar ⓘ
Instructions
- Brown the meat in hot shortening.
- Add onion and applesauce; cook until the onion is tender.
- Blend in flour, curry powder, and nutmeg.
- Add beef broth, tomato sauce, raisins, and brown sugar.
- Cover and simmer until the meat is tender, about 1 hour 15 minutes, or bake in the oven at 325°F.
