Ingredients

  • 2 lb. lean round steak or chuck roast, cut in 1-inch cubes
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. onion, sliced
  • 1 c. applesauce
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 to 3 tsp. curry
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 (10 1/4 oz.) can beef broth
  • 2 c. tomato sauce
  • 1 1/3 c. raisins
  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Brown the meat in hot shortening.
  2. Add onion and applesauce; cook until the onion is tender.
  3. Blend in flour, curry powder, and nutmeg.
  4. Add beef broth, tomato sauce, raisins, and brown sugar.
  5. Cover and simmer until the meat is tender, about 1 hour 15 minutes, or bake in the oven at 325°F.
